At Tuesday’s Orange County Great Park Board Meeting, the park development update unveiled a proposed 40-acre site for the future Great Park Botanical Garden.

We are so excited.  Next step is to meet with city staff and draft an Exclusive Right to Negotiate agreement which is planned to be presented to the Irvine City Council for approval in January.

The site (#2 on the map) is bordered by the Aqua Chinon Creek on one side and the future Veteran’s cemetery on the other side.  Entry will be on Great Park Blvd, the main road through the Great Park.  The future Cultural Terrace area of the Park will be across Great Park Blvd providing access and synergy to future museums and other uses.  While the map designation is a major step toward our goal, the final decision rests with the city council. We need to continue to let the council know the value of a public garden in the Great Park.

Many thanks to all who have supported our grassroots efforts to include a world-class botanical garden at the Great Park.  With the support of both individual and corporate partners, in the last two years, we formed a 501c3 non-profit, created an amazing website and social media presence, developed concept designs, and produced an inspiring and informational video.  We met with city council members and city staff and thank them for their support, encouragement and as of Tuesday, a place in the Great Park.
