What a fun hour participating in a virtual Town Hall on “Gardening in a Pandemic”.

Many thanks to Irvine council member, Farrah Khan, for hosting and to Irvine middle schooler, Matthew Changg, who was my co-presenter.  We shared the basics of starting a veggie garden, best practices to get and keep it growing, as well as personal stories of gardening triumphs and challenges.

Watering vegetables and herbs in raised bed. Fresh plants and soil.

Council member, Khan, shared her personal successes and challenges, and the thrill of fixing dinner for the first time with produce from her own garden.  Matthew is passionate about starting community gardens in Irvine and introducing his generation to the wonders and benefits of gardening.  The participants had lots of great questions and in order to answer them in a manner that can be referred to easily, I am including some handouts on the Great Park Garden Coalition website on Vegetable Gardening from the University of California Master Gardener program.  Also, look for weekly posts in the future on veggie gardening to help keep us all getting good results in growing our own food.

Here are some great handouts to help you in your vegetable gardening efforts.

Happy Gardening!
